It's not our protector in large part because the plutocrats (im)mobilize you into opposing legislation and regulatory action that oppose their interests. Divide and conquer.

Many studies have shown that it's not the act of holding the device that causes car crashes, but the conversation itself. That is, using a hand-free device does not prevent driver distraction, the main cause of crashes. Checking your email, even if it's being read aloud to you, makes you far more likely to run into me or another innocent driver. Here's a quick summary of the research: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M... . And here's an entertaining study that really shows what's going on in our brains: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/...

Re: U.S. Currently Fighting 74 Different Wars … That It Will Publicly Admit

U.S. Currently Fighting 74 Different Wars

Actually, I have two confessions to make.

I run Windows 2000 on my home computer. Yes, I do. It's remarkably stable. And it saves me a lot of time because, there are a lot of trivial Internet features that do not work on my computer. I never have to go to any of those web pages that load with Flash-Crash.

And, I don't own a cell phone. And I never have had one. I don't want one either, not even if Obama pays for it. The FBI is not tracking me with my cell phone. I don't have one.

I do not even like to hear my landline phone ring. When it rings, if my wife is nearby, I refuse to answer it. Exasperated, she screams at me with a towel wrapped around herself, "Why didn't you get it?"

I love seeing her with a towel wrapped around herself.

Anyway, I always respond, -Whoever it was, they'll call back, if it was important.

Re: Is Modern Life Making Us Dumber?

>>our ancestors got a lot more exercise than we do!

perhaps. or, maybe we're more like tigers. hunt once a week, eat their fill, spend the rest of the time sleeping ~23 hours a day.

what we do know is that humans and our predecessors were always in touch with the surface of the planet. no rubber-soled shoes. no 12 story buildings, automobiles.

when you take today's humans, and re-connect them (known as earthing) to the planet, their levels of cortisol and thyroid hormones change for the better, positive, measurable benefits simply from being grounded (the theory is, electrons make their way into the body, help it rid itself of free radicals).

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pm...

Earthing of an electrically insulated human organism during night rest
causes lowering of serum concentrations of iron, ionized calcium,
inorganic phosphorus, and reduction of renal excretion of calcium and
phosphorus. Earthing during night rest decreases free tri-iodothyronine
and increases free thyroxine and thyroid-stimulating hormone. The
continuous earthing of the human body decreases blood glucose in
patients with diabetes. Earthing decreases sodium, potassium, magnesium,
iron, total protein, and albumin concentrations while the levels of
transferrin, ferritin, and globulins α1, α2, β, and γ increase. These
results are statistically significant.

Re: “Absolutely Every One” – 15 Out of 15 – Bluefin Tuna Tested In California Waters Contaminated with Fukushima Radiation

i had the same situation. my husband works in a nuke plant so we are well aware of the dangers of a radiation leak. it's scary and absolutely does impact the earth and doesn't just go away. but nobody wants to hear that.

Re: Is Modern Life Making Us Dumber?

Epsilon minor beings are visible everywhere in our society. Just look at what Octo-mom just brought into the world.

These beings are cheering having elected Barack Obama as President, believing that an ObamaPhone and food stamps, and even cut back food stamps, are their eternal deliveration from the oppression of their unabated underclass and perpetual slavery.

Economists explain, these Epsilon minor beings are necessary for a strong economy. (Without theft in the world, the world economy would sink into a massive abyss of never-ending, economic depression. Without so many incompetent souls in this modern world, there would be nowhere for social service agencies to ply their demented trade.)

And many high class American whores will refuse to even acknowledge the existence of an Epsilon minor being -that happens to unfortunately wander into their field of view. Yech!

Tolerance, people, is for the dim-witted. These Epsilon minor beings are overwhelming us -even as you read this. Their reproduction rates are rewriting all the Malthusian equations. And now, they are even causing the extinction everyone else. Most normal people are simply overwhelmed with the over-crowding-nausea they cause.

He stated that legend says the "children will have to run to the trees" or something to that affect. I didn't realize then what it meant and this was pre-Fukushima. The prophecy was intended for post-nuclear near extinction of man. The 'trees' are our forests, wooded areas, national parks ect..Many of these areas have caves[we lived there once right? The trees give us oxygen, protect from radiation[sun] absorb toxins, maintain animal life and so on. Also there is the flip side, we may not make it. A dire warning about "something" - it can't be debt as the author has a clear misunderstanding of debt - backed up with numerous colorful, sometimes completely unrelated segues. Remember, it's the Banksters who want a claim to debt, and they have a problem with spending. They'll be screaming about inflation while society changes into some kind of medieval free-for-all. Well, okay then.

"restoring the privileges of being white, male and wealthy"

Well... the privileges of being wealthy certainly have been restored. You can ask for the rules of the market to change in your favor at just about any time and get results.

"When you read the Constitution, it does not make any reference to any of those categories being entitled to power enshrinement."

Can you tell me, then, what the 15th, 19th and 26th Amdts. were all about? Actually, it's very well known that only white, male landowners (the latter implying a certain amount of discretionary wealth) over the age of 21 were guaranteed the right to vote by the original Constitution.

"How much national good has come about from allowing people with Marxist
tendencies to gain control of the functions of government?"

If you'd get your head out of the movement, you'd see they haven't. What do private corporations for private wealth have to do with Marxism anyway? If there is socialism, it's ONLY for the wealthy. With a brief blip around the 1950s, that's how it's been throughout Western history.

Re: Why Liberals Should be Outraged that the IRS Targeted Conservatives

Yeah, on second thought, your entire MO is trolling and pasting Koch propaganda (did you know a Koch founded the John Birch Society to keep the little people in their place?) and trolling. The Federal Reserve is the collection arm of the Rothschilds; a jewish family who owns most of the worlds central banks and controls much of the worlds finances. The IRS is not partisan. It is simply the Rothschilds REPO man! And just like the Federal Reserve Act of 1912, which was passed in the dark of night, during christmas break with congress absent, the income tax act and the establishment of the IRS is of dubious validity. Neither has a strong foundation in law. But, consider this take on the current scandal:

http://wallstreetonparade.com/...

It seems to me the Koch Bros and allies mobilize "people who love the concept of freedom" into weakening legislation that might affect their businesses. Like one of those martial arts where you channel opponents' energy against them, these donors channel "freedom lover" energy into "pollution enabler".

Another NakedCapitalism link today (to an FT article, I think) points out that the climate "skeptics" have already won by preventing action. (Yes, I agree certain proposals, such as giving money to polluters -- QE for polluters!, were bad ideas. ... But, the very fact that legislators floated bills to pay off polluters again tells you how powerful existing business interests are.) So, the Tea Party backers have already been hugely successful for themselves.
